The STEMIE Coalition At A Glance
The STEMIE Coalition
The STEMIE Coalition (STEMIE), a division of The Henry Ford, a 90-year old 501(c)(3), is a global alliance of organizations teaching students real-world problem-solving and creative skills through invention education and entrepreneurship activities.
- Over 35 global affiliates and partners in invention, entrepreneurship, and innovation programs
- Over 100,000 K-12 students trained each year in core invention and entrepreneurship skills, with this number growing by almost 50% a year
- More than 2,500 teachers trained annually in how to teach innovation to students
The STEMIE Coalition members hold invention competitions across the U.S. and have reach into STEM schools and programs in almost all 50 states. Through its programming, K-12 students are introduced and instructed in the areas of innovation, entrepreneurship, sustainability, and invention. Major U.S. corporate sponsorships include Stanley Black & Decker and United Technologies, and major foundations like the Paul G. Allen and Lemelson Foundation. The annual National Invention Convention and Entrepreneurship Expo celebrates our young participants with programming and competitions at The Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation in Dearborn, MI.
The STEMIE Coalition convenes a community of practice around invention education, including its Steering Committee, comprising two dozen invention education leaders around the U.S. It also brings invention education stakeholders together at an annual National Youth Invention and Entrepreneurship Educators Summit to share best practices and advance STEMIE’s mission.
STEMIE Coalition members and its supporters understand the important role invention and entrepreneurship education has in developing youth to tackle 21st-century problems — including social, environmental and sustainability issues. It is STEMIE’s organizational goal to grow Invention Convention education across the U.S. to 10 million students annually –- an audacious but achievable goal.
